Mittelverwendung: Installation

Platform-Berlin is a project exhibiting art in unused and ordinarily commercial spaces on the underground rail line. It is designed to spark U-Bahn riders of all ages and cultures to interact with an art installation in an unusual space and to affect people’s physical path of movement, routine and thought process. We work with artists from different nationalities but that are working and living in Berlin to develop an installation specifically for the space and the situation of the U-Bahn platform. Our intention is to show art outside of a conventional gallery and to make it accessible and approachable to people who ordinarily would not be inclined to go to a gallery or actively seek contact with art. For each installation we also organize a public event inviting local neighborhoods to come together, meet the artist, and congregate on the platform space. These events are attended by people of all ages, cultures and social backgrounds. It is also open to those spontaneously passing by (see pictures). We also hold artist talks and give tours of the space and installation to students and artist groups interested in project spaces and this kind of installation work.
